Deformed Leaves

Hello,

I have New Guinea Impatiens planted in a container on my porch. Most years, I have great success, but I have encountered a problem this year. About 2 weeks ago, the growth seemed stunted and the leaves started to grow in deformed. They are not curled or wrinkled but actually are not coming in to their correct shape. The buds also started to die and wouldn't bloom.

From what I've read, it could be mites. Does this sound correct? If so, what is the chance I can get rid of the mites so the plant is healthy again? I pruned them back to 3", and I've also started spraying with a mixture of water and dish detergent.

RE: Deformed Leaves

I've never heard of Spidermites causing leaves to be deformed. It leaves get white spots and leaves fall off and then comes the webs.

It is mor likely that your plants have a disease. Do your leaves have dark brown spots on the leaves. Look at the link below and see if maybe it matches what you are seeing

Here is a link that might be useful: tomato spotted leaf virus

RE: Deformed Leaves

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't look like the picture in the pdf, but the article does state leaves can become deformed. I ended up throwing them out because I don't want it to spread. I wish I knew exactly what disease or pest. The last two years the impatiens were beautiful but the previous fall they developed the same problem.
