Impatiens still have tiny leaves

I planted a bunch of impatiens under a burgundy plum tree about a month ago. They are blooming like crazy, but they still have very small leaves and are not bushing up. I had put some Plant-tone there under the tree a couple weeks ago. I water nearly every day, too. Why are the impatiens still mini?

RE: Impatiens still have tiny leaves

Your Impatiens are competeing with the roots from the tree for water and nutrients and growing space. They are never going to get as big as ones that are in a bed where there is no tree. Be thankful that they are blooming like crazy and don't expect them to get big
