I read somewhere that impatiens are attractive to humming birds. Has anyone found this to be ture? If so which colors do they come to?

RE: hummingbirds

Humming birds do like the native species like Impatiens capensis but I have noticed they will go for Impatiens niamniamensis and other similar red flowered plants. Hummers tend to like red or orange and flowers that are rather tubular in shape.

I have Pixie impatiens planted bare-root in the rocks around my pond. Just yesterday I saw a hummer at the impatiens for the first time ever. I have mostly pastel colors and he really didn't seem to prefer one over the other....he just dashed around visiting all of them. He was also visiting my lavender lantana.

I have dazzler white and red star impatiens in my backyard, and I've seen my hummingbird visiting them several times in the past few weeks.

I've found the same thing - never heard that they were particularly attracted to them - thought it was a fluke! YES, I've seen multipled times hummers at my impatiens - I have red, 'purple star' (pink) and white infinity imps. GREAT that someone else has had this experience!

I had a hummer on my 14th story balcony many times this summer visiting my Impatiens glandulifera and Asclepias curassavica flowers.
