Pics of my double impatiens

| I posted these pics in a thread on the Annuals forum but thought I'd share here as well. I love them and am hoping to overwinter them inside this year. I did have a salmon coloured one that I overwintered for about three years but last winter, for some reason, it went to mush before even sending out roots. The salmon one pictured last with the Lava Rose coleus is the one I am talking about. The closeup before that is a new salmon one I found this year that is close to what the other one was like. But I could only find this colour in one garden centre this year.
And from a couple of years ago, one of my favourite window boxes with double impatiens a trailing coleus "Lava Rose".

| Wooooah! Just noticed the nice drop of bird poo (am I allowed to say that here?) on the salmon one I pointed out. I couldn't see that lovely detail on the thumbnail I guess. Sorry folks! |

| Bootiful. Didn't even see the poo. Like you I enjoy impatiens with coleus, but I haven't done double impatients so far. Pretty, pretty, pretty. |

| Thanks laurabs! If you can find this Coleus Lava Rose anywhere where you live, it is lovely. In the sun it grows darker and denser, and in the light shade it is more delicate. I'll try to find images to show the difference later. I like both "versions", for lack of a better word. |

Your impatiens are BEAUTIFUL! I just bought three impatiens. They are my first attempt at growing them. I have one red new guinea, fushia new guinea and a bright pink double impatien. Do you have any advise? I have all three in containers in the shade on my patio. Thanks Christine |

| Hi Christine, Why thank you! You are lucky to live in a place where you could grow them outside year-round. I have taken and rooted small cuttings of each this year to overwinter inside for next year. I haven't grown the new guinea type, but I believe they can stand direct sunlight, although you may want to introduce them slowly if you aren't sure of what light conditions they were growing in before you acquired them. The double impatiens are the same as regular impatiens--prefer partial sun or light shade. Outside during the summer for me, they seem to require daily watering to keep the blooms coming. The droop very quickly when they dry out. I also used slow release fertilizer pellets for flowering plants in the pots when repotting them this spring. Good luck! Can you post pictures? Patty |
