RE: Double Impatiens question

Double impatiens can be grown from seeds. We did it this year with seeds from a well-known seed company. However, we cannot find the seeds on them now, when we want more for next year. Does anyone know where to look?

RE: Double Impatiens question

Hi, I saw these at the garden center one year, but thought the plants were kind of pricey, so passed them up.

Then I saw the seeds at Stokes, and thought the seeds were kind of pricey ($7.60 for 50 seeds), but not bad compared to the plants. And I have had pretty good success starting plants under a fluorescent shop light in my cellar for the past couple of years, so I decided to give it a try.

When the seeds came, and I took a look at the growing directions, I realized why the plants are pricey! They seem to have VERY specific requirements. I will try them, since I have them now, but I will be very surprised if I end up with more than one or two plants. Now I understand why they charge the price they do.

Yikes I bought doubles this year too. Anybody have any advice on starting them from seeds? I have already invested 25.00 on these seeds.
Thanks,Craigbear

RE: Double Impatiens question

to start use a plastic shoe box with some gravel on the bottom for drainage and seed starter mix on top you should have success. after planting seeds do not cover with soil, they seem to need light to germinate. water to moisten the soil and put the lid on the shoe box, take off for a little while each day to let condensation evaporate. if you plant during a full moon they generate faster. you will have almost 100% germination rate.
