what is spider mite? I am new to impatiens

I have a few month old double impatien. She was beautiful and doing well until I went out of town and my mom took care of her. She (the impatien) has since lost her blooms, leaves and has this cobwebby fine stuff all over it. I sprayed it with organic garden pest spray and trimmed her a bit and watered her lightly. Do you have any suggestion? I hope she is not a gonner! I forgot to mention she is an indoor kitchen plant in zone 8b.

You may be able to save it with a systemic spray. First take it to the sink and hose off most of the webs and spiders. Let it dry. Cut back the stems by about 1/3 and heavily spray both sides of whatever leaves it has left, plus the stems. Try not to breathe the spray. Do this every 4 to 5 days until you see new growth. Keep it in a semi shady place. Mites are common on Impatiens. I keep mine sprayed to keep them from getting an infestation.

Greenhouser... What systemic spray do you use that you find effective? Those little things are a real pain in the neck. I always find this time of the year when I bring things indoors or to the greenhouse they seem to florish on a plant that was otherwise ok outside. I guess the good bugs do not come in with them:)
I try to hose everything down fairley well before bringing indoors and not much else bothers the plants be it impatience or others, than these pests. The impatiens do seem to be more prone than others.

I use Ortho Systemic Insect Killer from Lowe's. It's the best product I found for spider mites.

I will look for that although I probably won't find it here in Canada. I will keep the name for when i can get it.Perhaps i could pick it up on a trip to Wa. although that won't be until spring again. Looks like it will be soap and alcohol this winter:)
