caterpillars on impatiens

Earlier this summer I had a rash of thin black caterpillars on my red impatiens. They were eating both the leaves and the buds. I tried several types of insecticides - both liquid and granular, finally got rid of them. The flowers have come back but can someone tell me what insects tend to eat impatiens. I have never had a problem with bugs before.

For the most part Impatiens arent bothered by chewing insects. I have gotten catepillers before but only once and not that many. What do bother Impatiens are sucking bugs like mites, thrips and the like. The only time slugs and snails are a problem is in the seedling stage.
