seeds from regular impatiens..why not double?

I am curious to know why it seems that i can get my common impatiens to produce seed but i can get my double impatiens to seed. Its sooo ecpensice to but double impatien seeds, not to mention hard to find. Does anyone know why i can get them to produce seed? Thank you! Missa

They are infertile they will not produce seeds. You can buy seeds of doubles but these are a little different than the others such as the variegated kind. They so messed up genectically that they can only be reproced by cuttings

I find that the cuttings of doubles are pretty easy to root, but very slow growing compared to most singles.
