Impatiens sodenii hybrid 'Coastal Rose'

I just came across this new to me color form of I. sodenii, or a hybrid with another Impatiens, and loved the vivid magenta flowers. I am not familiar with the plant, and notice that the grower(San Marcos Growers), lists it as a hybrid and only growing to 2 foot tall. If it is anything like most other I. sodenii cultivars, this is way too small for size at maturity. Anyone already growing this? The plant habit does appear to be identical to the typical forms...

It is not a Impatiens sodenii I can tell you that for sure. I call it a giant walleriana. Impatiens sodenii has whorls of leaves these are alternating. I really dont know much about its origins. The form of this plant is very similar to walleriana but much more bulky. I guess it could be a hybrid between the two but I really doubt it.
It can get much more than 2 feet. I have one in a pot and its about 5 ft. Someone recently brought a pink form to the SF botanical gardens. I just potted up the cutting this weekend. I cant wait to see it in bloom. I have also seen it under the name Perennial Rose. I seem to remember a few years ago I was in a cemetery in the SF Bay Area. I saw these large bedding Impatiens that were past my waist in size. Very impressive and in different colors. They looked like they were sheared back like shrubs other wise they would have been taller than the crypt they were boardering.

Thanks Derrick, for the info on this new to me plant. I saw some nice full one gallons and a larger 2 gallon this last weekend at Berkeley Hort Nursery, and at a quick glance they looked like sodenii's to me. I am surprised yours are not in bloom already, the ones at the nursery had quite a few blooms, and boy is that a vivid magenta!
