Sanfran, I just googled "Prayer Garden" and I got tons of responses. Now, whether any of them are good or not, well, that I don't know. How big do you want this garden to be? What do you have envisioned for it? Sometimes the denomination you belong to sets the tone of the garden. Good luck!

I have some rather strong opinions on this one. I run away as fast as I can from anything to do with a church committee. If you truly are in charge, fine. However, this is rarely the case.

The problem is that you can come up with a truly wonderful plan but you are never going to make everyone happy. Always AFTER the bulk of your planning is complete, someone will find fault. This person couldn't possibly be wrong because their opinion is now divined by God. I have seen too many of these well-intentioned projects spiral down into a battle.

If you proceed with this -- and you probably will -- I know the tendency is to get as many people involved as possible but do this in an intelligent way. Allow for a short, predefined period of input. Collect everyone's opinions and then cut it off at the end predetermined timeframe. Make your decisions and then go with it.

The surest way to get nothing done, even in business, is to have a decision made by committee. I wish you well.

I've seen references to mazes being related to prayer, as the person follows the maze, mentally shuts out the rest of the world, and prays. I really don't know much about it, but you might want to research that to see if you'd like to incorporate that idea into your prayer/meditation garden. Either way--without or without a maze, the pergola and benches would make good points for stopping and meditating. It sounds like an interesting idea. I'd love for you to eventually post your results and what you learned along the way.

Must admit, prayer garden would ineed be wonderful, every church should have one, be an attraction aswell.
