Balloon Flower Question

Last fall I had 2 potted Blue Balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus) seedlings that became bug infested. I set them outside and after several hard frosts I brought them into the greenhouse. One of the 2 came back up and is now blooming. You can view at the link shown below.

My question is if I set this plant outside before the winter is over can I cause it to go dormant, then plant it in the flower bed this spring and get it to bloom again this summer?

in some years mine have bloomed a second time towards fall, If it were mine I'd keep it inside until frost danger is past and then set it outside

RE: Balloon Flower Question

I have balloon flowers planted outside in our front rock gardens on the east side of our house. They get morning till about 2:00 sun. I haven't dug them up in at least 3 years and they come back ever year and have even mulitiplied. I just pinch off the blooms after they are done and they re-bloom the whole season.

RE: Balloon Flower Question

I also have a baloon flower in my rock wall. I don't see how it lives with hardly any dirt, frozen solid in the winter. Crazy plant.

It self seeded so the price was right.

I also would hold off till the danger of frost is gone.
