I wrote for all the materials last year but couldn't get anyone to go with me (yes, I'm a big chicken). I'm anxious to hear from anyone who has been thru the program too.

Hubby and I took the classes last fall in our county. They are wonderful. The Polk county group is very active. They have a large display at the State Fair as well as green houses where they grow flowers for the State Fair. Their "leader" talked to our county's group and told us some of what they do...they have lots of fun projects! If I were you I'd take the classes in a hearbeat!!!

There is a "Master Gardeners" forum on GardenWeb. They are quite open about discussing their experiences with the master gardeners program. The quality seems to vary from state to state. You might call your county extension and ask for the names of some local master gardeners and talk with them. I suspect you will get a positive appraisal as the Iowa program is well-regarded. They can also give you some encouragement about "going for it." Rhoda

If your wanting to go ...GO! It's great, and you'll meet a lot of new gardening friends! I went last fall in Black Hawk county. I didn't know how much education was available till I became a MG. You get things in the mail letting you know what's going on. Also, the volunteering you do will make you proud that you live in your town! You can help keep it Growing.(Plants that is) ;)
