Bulk Mulch in Iowa City area

I am looking for a place in or around Iowa City to purchase bulk mulch and maybe some flagstone. Anybody know of such a animal?

| A fellow named Dan Harbit (who also sells firewood) has beautiful oak bark mulch that he'll deliver in bulk, but it's appropriately pricey... or you can get all you want free across from the airport; I just go fill up my pickup whenever I want (it's not the most beautiful stuff, but it's free). In the past when I've wanted LOTS of mulch, I've hired a truck to deliver free mulch direct from the landfill (they also have leaf compost that they sell cheap, but they sometimes run out of it). For flagstone, Kings Materials sells it by the pallet, as does Phils. I've been told it's cheaper to get it delivered direct from Stone City, but I've never looked into that. |

| If you are willing to travel a little south, there is a small sawmill in Kalona called Nisly Wood Products (right next to the Appliance Barn or Hwy 1) where you can get a truck load (or dump truck load) of nice mixed hardwood mulch for about $20-$30 a load (may be less $ than that, but can't remember). We have gotten mulch from them several times before, and is always very nice stuff...otherwise, like hawki said, there is alway the free "mulch mountain" across from the airport (have gotten mulch from there before too!)...not sure about the flagstone though. | Hey Paws, Just FYI, we went to Nisly's (Kalona) yesterday for some mulch, and it was $15 for a pick-up truck full. They will dump it right into the truck for you, which is nice. Too bad they couldn't spread it all out once we got home!! quasky |

| Re the cedarfalls/waterloo area. i discovered that cf has a composting site where you can pick up free both compost and wood chips. it was a pain to bag the chips and haul them in my car, but 140 bags and 7 trips later i'm about done and the price was right. |
