Need ground cover that is winter hardy

I just moved to a new house and it sits on 100' x 100' lot, huge and I don't want to mow. I don't "play" outside so it would get little foot traffic.

I live in Grundy County, the richest soil in Iowa according to the DNR. My neighbor dug a basement and never hit clay, so the plants will have good soil and we get regular rains for our crops. I don't mind watering the ground cover to get it started but I don't want to spend all summer at it.

The ground cover will be in full sun for part of the day as the sun rises and falls across plot with the house giving little shade.

Any experts out there got any ideas?

Vinca minor, pachysandra, various sedums come to mind.
You planning on the whole thing ....100 by 100 in ground cover???
