advice for an Iowan newbie

Hello, I live in the Loess Hills area. A few miles south of Council BLuffs. My soil is what they call sweet clay or sugar clay (i think), very windy. Anyone else with the same conditions? I am looking for any advice to create the garden/yard of my dreams.... thanks

I'm not from your area, but I think you can get some free advice by driving around and looking at gardens in your area. If you walk through neighborhoods in the early evening, you can probably stop and ask questions if the gardeners are out working.
Also be on the lookout for garden walks or tours.
