Joys of a Hail Storm

We had one of those cliché ... "Isolated Thunder Showers" this evening.

It had been hot and windy all day and you just knew when the cold front blew though ... it was gonna rain. And rain it did. We got a .25 inches in about 15 minutes. Just enough to settle the dust in my gravel back alley and fill the bird bath.

Mixed with the rain was some pea sized hail. It drummed a steel drum beat on the tops of the 2 window air conditioners I install in my "old house" each Spring.

When I looked out the window at my newly mowed green lawn, the small hail stones were bouncing when they hit terra firma. You can't see them in the air before they hit the gound... but as they bounce they trick your eye into thinking they are popping up out of the grass like weeds.

Now that's entertainment...

I cringe whenever I hear the first ping of hail...it can be so destructive to the garden. I think we got some hail last night, too. I haven't been out to see if there is any damage, but the hostas I can see from my window look ok.
