Boy Iowa county last Friday flooding. Very scary night. Channel 9 keeps saying we had 8 inches of rain . Around Koszta had 11. Basement sump-pumps still running. Dh washed the mud off my flowers Sat. Some got got washed out. Some mulch washed away. But they don't look bad. Water didn't stay on them. Not like some houses-still have water around them in Marengo. And stink. Lot of crop damage. Big bales of hay in middle of lawn. Hog house wasjed away with 100 hogs in it. Have found all but 7 of them. Fence washed out so cattle got out. Basement wall caved in one house. Trailer moved off foundation. Sides of hill washed out and sides of roads.

Here in Wellman, the city engineer is talking about the "75 year event." All in all, we fared pretty well. Our rental cottage basement had about three feet of water in it, but it's more of a crawl space than a basement. No real harm done. I had mulch wash away. The cottage yard was underwater and there was quite a river running through it and down to the neighbors. It almost knocked over thier dilapidated privacy fence, our new privacy fence to not see thier old one apparently saved the day. I have a new Red Prince weigala that doesn't look very happy. It's in a hedge row and was in the fastest of the current. It lost all it's bottom leaves. My ES hydrengas were delighted with all the water and grew tremendously since then. Everything else is fine.

The local Marengo paper says the town pumped 255 million gallons of water over the levee to the Iowa River. The levee didn't break. This is water from street drains. My sump-pumps are still pumping. But not non-stop like a week ago. Very scary night just coming home. About got washed off road. Wall of water came down a driveway.
