| Hi Dean, Are you wanting to grow herbs for cooking, fragrance, or just because they are pretty? These are easy ones I grow. For cooking: chives -- blooms early spring with light purple puffball flowers greek oregano sage -- it has a pretty blue flower on it various mints. spearment seems the most vigourous for me but beware all of them spread like crazy borage is supposedly edible but I have no idea what you actually do with it horseradish not perennial but self seeds rampantly are dill and cilantro/coriander. also epazote but its a specialty herb used in mexican cooking. its hard to find, grows like 4 to 5 feet tall. most people think it stinks. for scent/ornamental value beebalm lemonbalm -- its in the mint family so it spreads. and it reseeds wormwood -- silvery foliage that stands out in the evening catnip also a mint. yes, it does drive cats wild russian sage No where is it written that you can't mix flowers and stuff in with your herb garden. I've got daylillies, purple coneflowers, daisies and even a rose bush all jumbled up together and it looks fine. Rhubarb is an interesting looking plant as well. It has those enormous sculptural looking leaves. If you planted the red stalked variety that would add another color note. Probably more info than you need. Have fun! Maria |
