Haven't seen any hummers for at least 2 weeks. Been keeping feeders up-putting fresh sugar water in them but no takers. Hope I'm just missing them at feeders. And they are busy with babies.

I had a "green backed" hummer visiting the red impatiens on my deck this morning in Iowa Falls. I think it's a ruby throated hummingbird...but I'm not positive about its ID. So they must be heading south. I hope they stay around until Sept.

Thank God they are back at the feeders. Watching one right now. Got some VERY small ones. So MA and PA must have been in the nest. Glad I kept feeders up and clean and filled. Love watching them.

Boy I have alot of them this year. They have been fighting over the feeders. Guess that is normal for this time of year. And been buzzing me when in the flowers. Seen them even in sunflowers.

They've been here in Ames all summer, coming to the feeder, water feature, and various flowers. I unexpectedly came across one feeding on crocosmia, just a couple feet from me, and the bird was about as stunned as I was. It hovered right in front of me, deciding whether I was food or not before buzzing off. :)

The humming birds are still visiting my impatiens several times each day. Even though the impatiens are no longer at their prime. During that cold spell in mid-September I hauled my 11 pots of impatiens into to then garage each night...uffdah! But, I guess it was worth it to get another month out of the plants. The birds have now been joined by white-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moths who do their feeding just after dark. Both critters seem oblivious to my presence just a few feet away on my deck.
