RE: porcelain vine

Ummm... You may wish to reconsider this idea.

The Problem:
Porcelain Berry, which is spread by birds, primarilary colonizes disturbed areas along roads, fields, and gaps in forests. It is a vigorous vine that can quickly overwhelm trees and shrubs, forming blankets of growth that reduce plant species diversity and weaken trees so they become vulnerable to wind damage. In addition to the high germination rate of seeds, this plant also reproduces vegetatively from stem or root segments. It out competes native species for water and nutrients.

Hi daylilly01 - I was researching for a nice vine to climb up a newly erected arbor (to shade my Nikko H) and found help from the Clematis forum in Garden Web. Unless you are dead-set on the Porcelain Vine (lovely as her name is) you might like to check out the very lovely Sweet Autumn. She is an aggressive grower too, blooms twice in the growing season with a soft jasmine-like scent to boot!

Some Clematis aficionados claim this climber to be too agressive in some areas but controlable with patience.

I planted 1 on each leg of my arbor and as young as they were, the tiny white blooms were so delightful. Just the other day I checked on them & found seeds on the dried up flower terminals & clipped some to see if they will grow to new babes to crawl and climb on my fence.

I pass by a yard with, what I thought was, Sweet Autumn covering beautifully and thickly an arbor - my musings were answered when one day, the whole arbor was like a bride in her beautiful white veil! I can't wait to see how mine grows next season (one of mine grew a 7ft vine the other not as long but got thick.

I suggest you do a search on 'Vines' in this Web, you will see gorgeous photos too!
