While watching an episode of P. Allen Smith yesterday where he was touring Mount Vernon and commenting on the fact that many of Washingtons planting beds were bordered by herbs I got to thinking of how many herbs can deter insect pests. Something we were not taught, or did not learn, from our elders. Many herbs can be used to deter insect pests or attract beneficial insects, or both.

Something to look into more deeply, I would think.
