Lime Vs Fleas

When I lived in Texas a neighbor of mine put lime on his lawn to fight fleas. Said it was safer than commercial pesticides because his pets ate the grass. Anyone ever hear of this strategy for combating fleas?
Thanks,

Which kind of lime does your neighbor use. The mineral lime has been used by some people who heard that lime helped control fleas only to find out that what people really meant was the citrus fruit lime, and both lemon and lime juice are reported to be of some use for control.

Unfortunately, I've seen some so called professional recommendations for the use of mineral lime (dolomite, etc) to control fleas on the supposition that it 'dries the fleas out'. I would not advise using lime for this purpose. I think that it's wishful thinking, at best. Doing a bad number on your soil, at worst.

Using lime, the chemical, would adjust the pH of your soil. Not recommended unless you know what you're doing. There IS, however, a chemical in citrus that contributes to its flavor called d-limonene. Two days ago I noticed a natrual pesticide at the store in which this was the active ingredient. It must work - worth a try! Jon
