I want to start using a non toxic method to controlling fleas in my yard. I have been using Frontline etc. applied to our dogs external coat with fair sucess. We now have a new puppy and want to avoid toxins to see if she fairs better than our other two dogs who both got various cancers. Does regular application of DE have any negative effect on plants or grass by changinf ph or any other balance? Mainly it would be applied to our Floratam St. Augustine turf. Thanks!

Horticultural grade DE will not harm soil at all. Don't know about the pool grade, which you wouldn't want to use, anyway.

Fleas don't infest an entire yard. Instead, fleas are nest parasites. Thus, your control efforts should target the animal and where ever the animal sleeps. Comb the dog regularly. And indoors, vacuum regularly -- daily if possible -- the floors, also any furniture/beds you allow the animal on. Then, if you also have cats, realize that they're the ones bringing the fleas home.
