Bad Chemicals Put On Lawn Please Help

Posted by sunnybunny Z8Northwest (My Page) on

I have a rental house which I purchased last year. The lawn is basically weeds which I mowed down. This year my business partner tried to do me a favor and mowed the weeds down and then applied a broad herbacide. I am pretty upset about it because I have only gardened and done the "lawn thing" with organic means or used round up sparingly to bring down evil black berry bushes. (ended up by using a backhoe! That worked great!) What do I do now? How long will those chemicals last? I am not happy. He wants to use it on my home lawn too but I have dogs and a child and told him his days were numbered if I even thought chemicals were being used. Everything I read says these herbacides are pretty bad. Advice?

The good news is most herbicides available to joe average these days don't last long in their toxic form. If you purchased a rental house (I assume you are renting it out?) you really have no control over what the tenants use on 'their' lawn anyway.

For your own lawn, stick to whatever you are comfortable with.

Do you mean a broad leaf herbicide; one that kills the broadleaf weeds in grass? Hopefully, your partner used a spray rather than a granule which can cause more problems for those using the lawn.

If he used a spray, he is the most likely one to have a negative impact from the herbicide. A few rain events or irrigation cycles will take care of it.
