Ant nest in compost bin

Posted by miss_eli London (My Page) on

I have had a nest of black ants at the bottom of my compost bin for somewhile and have tried breaking the nest using a spade and also putting ant powder into the compost (although this bothers me as it is not environmentally sound). Can anyone tell me how to deal with this as my compost is just about ready.
Thanks. Eli

Aside from that fact that you evidently think these ants are pests why is it really necessary to eliminate them from that compost?
There really is no need to do that.
