| St. Louis first sighting this week.Hand picked and squashed about 30 of em this am..( some having sex..damn I spoiled their morning)
I hate using sevin dust. They populate the squash/cucs/and melon plants.
Anyone got any miracle cures?
I have radishs planted everywhere. So much for that repellant plan. |

| Try making a spray of water, crushed garlic and hot pepper. The solution seems to keep them away, make it strong though. |

I use a hand held, battery op vac to vacuum them up two or three times weekly, then I empty the cannister in soapy water. I rigged up a drinking straw to the tip of the vacuum to create a tunnel and increase the suction. It works great once the plants are flowering because they tend to congregate and conjugate in the flowers. Mrs H |

| They have killed off my vines for the last two years while I tried all the companion planting/alternative ideas. This year I am trying the NEEM oil. It does not kill the beneficial insects or the bees like rotenone can and it comes from a tree native to india. There are quite a few studies/information out there on it. Hopefully it works, cause I can't feed my pickle addiction without cucumbers..:) |

| Be careful with neem. Some plants exhibit phytotoxicity to it. Personally I've been disappointed with neem, but I haven't given it a true trial. The only person I know who uses it and gets results sprays it every few days as a preventative, starting before she has a problem. It does a poor job of stopping a problem that's begun, at least for me. Your mileage may vary, of course. Soeur |
