What chews bell pepper leaves?

My young bell pepper leaves are being chewed on by something but I never see any creature. What could this be? I don't think that rabbits eat this, or if they did more would be gone than basically one young tender leave on many plants?

Depending on how the leaves are chewed it could be rabbits, deer, aphids, Spider Mites, Leafminers, Flea Beetles, European Corn Borer, Corn Earworms, and many other leaf eating caterpillars including the Hornworms.

Kimmsr - I was just working on trying to send a picture of a chewed leave but can't figure out how to get it from Photobucket to GardenWeb.

Dear me - that's alot of critters! I never see any insect, but would suspect rabbits.

What causes the small bell peppers to have holes in the flesh?

Check for the presence of moths or butterflies in the garden from these you get the above metioned insects..they eat my peppers, corn and tomatoes you have to kill them when they are still eggs not catapillers its too late after that.you can tell what kind of pest you got by the shape of the hole it makes(for instance, the corn borer larve make windowpane shaped holes in corn leves at the early stage)

Last week I sprayed bell and banana peppers with an Eco-Friendly Detergent wash (Walmart). Worked great for spider mites on the roses but still having the chewed leaf problem on the peppers. Next I'll try the Seven spray.
I'm in a country setting, lots of trees & foliage, we have moths and butterflys so that could my problem. Deer and rabbits don't come to the house & gardens. Also the damage must be happening at night because I see nothing during the day. Note: Bells are in 18" pots, Bananas are in ground.

Why not try to find out who the culprit is so that you can use something that is less toxic to a broad spectrum of critters than is Sevin (proper spelling). Caterpillars are pretty easy to spot if you take a few minutes to inspect the foliage, especially in the evening hours.

Of course, if you DO find munching caterpillars, pick them off and let them sink into a cup of soapy water.
