Bug IDs

I came across these in some limbs from a hackberry tree I had to cut down last week. I'd never seen anything quite like them, although I'm no bug expert.

This little fellow had a body about 1/2 inch long, excluding the legs and the black stinger-like thing coming out of the rear of his body.

This one was about the same size albeit thicker, and he's got the black and yellow stripes and those cricket-like rear legs.

Same as the second, but his body was about 5/8 of an inch long, and thicker than the first one's.

Our neighbor is all into the outdoors, and does work with the Boy Scouts, but he'd never seen anything like them. Any thoughts?

Looks like a longhorned borer. The redheaded ash borer; Neoclytus acuminatus.

RE: Bug IDs

Oh oh...We have an ash in our backyard. It's not in fantastic shape, and from what I've read after your ID that's not a good thing.

What can be done about these little suckers?
