bug vacuum

Has anyone used a vacuum to capture bugs? I am thinking of getting a hand held vacuum online. I would like to know if this has worked for anyone. If so, I would appreciate recommendations for what type to buy. Thanks, Paul

RE: bug vacuum

I have heard from many people that a hand held vacuum does a good job of cleaning all insects from your garden, pests as well as beneficials, unless you are very careful in its use. None have told me they would purchase one just for that but since they had one they used it and it worked with severe limitations, it picks up beneficials too.

Thanks kimmsr: Last year stink bugs damaged my tomatoes. I could see them but not move quickly enough to catch some of them. I did not want to use chemicals. This year I will try a small hand-held vac and report back if it was useful.

Not to mention that they suck up leaves as well

I'd think it would be great for Japanese beetles. Has anyone tried this?
