Community Garden In Nicaragua---Mysterious Squash Pests!

ElijahB

I'm developing a derelict organic garden for the community of La Isla in the Nicaraguan district of Chinandega. There's a tiny squash pest so persistent here that we've had to rip out all of our plants and start again.

Please! If you can, direct me to resources for identifying these little guys--and if possible beating them back.

They call them Bicho Calabaza (squash bug) here, but they don't look like anything like the squash bugs I've seen in my home state of Virginia.

They look something like Cucumber Beetles, but a solid milky orange color with no stripes or spots, and a centimeter or less long.

Thanks for your help!! La Isla is grateful in advance.
