I am trying to figure out what this bug is?

A moth; the adult of a hornworm. It appears that its wings aren't yet fully expanded, so it probably recently emerged from its pupal case.

Looks to me like either a Carolina Sphinx or a Five-Spotted Hawkmoth either the parent of the tomato hornworm.
