Major Aphid infestation

Posted by joaniben WA (My Page) on

My neighbor has a beech tree that's about 3 stories tall. Big. It has so many aphids that we cannot use our patio that is under it. Honeydew just drips like rain and it is also spoiling some nice patio furniture I have.

We bought some ladybugs but I know we'd need many more. The leaves were already hosting hundreds of ladybug pupae. But it's been a couple of weeks and the aphids are definitely winning.

I want to approach my neighbor with a good plan. I have kids and outdoor cats.

What can I do?

Thanks so much,

Joanne

RE: Major Aphid infestation

Beech trees get aphids. Lots of them. Every year. They're not a forever thing; they're temporary.

Hose off what you can every several days. Both you & your neighbor. Then temporarily move where you sit.

If that's unsuitable, convince your neighbor to share the cost of a tree care company which has the appropriate equipment to spray the entire tree.
