any idea what is eating my broccoli plants?

I have put down 9 plants saturday, and tuesday they were half gone, today only 2 are left. it looked like what I thought sluggs would do, but when I went out at night, there were no signs of slugs, but thousands of black crickets. do crickets eat plant life? would they eat chunks out of leaf stems like a slug would?

| In very large numbers, field crickets have been known to cause problems in gardens, especially with seedlings. |
