Bringing in Houseplants - Insects in soil! Help!

Posted by ivybloom NJ (My Page) on

Most of my summer vacationing house plants are starting to come in. But I notice in the soil in the actual pot, different infestations of insects. I want to bring in my potted Canna and see how it does indoors, but there are tens of small gray almost crustacean-type bugs living in the soil. Will a heavy soaking of water destroy these guys? I'd rather not use any chemicals.I'm Organic. Thanks.

Totally repot those plants. Just flooding the current potting soil may not get rid of all on the unwanted soil insects, or may drown the adults but leave any eggs that will become future pests intact.
