Diatomaceous Earth for poultry lice

Posted by bowerbrandon (My Page) on

I heard that Diatomaceous Earth will help control poultry lice. I have just discovered several of my chickens have the lice problem. How do you apply it to the chickens? Also is it harmful to cats? We have 2 cats that like to sleep in the chicken coup and would hate to hurt them.

Any help??

You might want to ask at the Farm Life Forum. They have several knowledgeable chicken folk there.

Food Grade Diamotaceous earth might help control those lice and will not harm your cats, unless they ingested a couple of pounds. Pool Grade DE will not do anything.
