Being as they are coming out of winter 'dormancy' I would keep soil around their roots until replanting.

After they finish bloom (June ?) it is fine to dig and sell as bare root. Or did you want to keep them from now to then as bare root? I've never dug mine in spring prior to bloom. Historics will handle that better than new cultivars.

Yes, Bearded Iris. And yes, I want to keep them now as bareroot. Ive had these for many years, like 25 years. I could plant them in soil in cut off plastic milk gallon jugs, since I do not have that many pots. I probably have at least 50 rhizomes. Any advise is appreciated for sure.

Haven't done that. Let us know how it works out! I'd keep them dry in a cool place for sure. Good luck on getting rid of the poison ivy.

You can leave them now bareroot, no problem, just keep them dry. They will be more prone to rot than any problem, so single layer them in your wagon as much as possible. I have mentioned before on this forum, once I dug a bunch of iris & a series of family health problems began. The rhizomes stayed on my patio table a full year in blazing sun then winter conditions before I could get back to them. Not all made it, but the survivors were the ones on top, but even a few at the bottom of the pile survived rot. Of course they will not bloom this year. When you get ready to sell them bareroot, try to have a photo of what they look like in bloom.
