ground heaving

A few of my irises planted last summer have risen. It looks as though they are elevated in a 3" dirt mound around the surrounding soil. The rhizomes are exposed a little more than I would think proper and I can see roots on a couple. My question is how to deal with this issue. Should I:

1. Leave things as they are

2. Pile some more dirt on the rhizomes

3. Carefully dig around and sink the rhizomes farther down

I usually just press the rhizomes back down slightly and mound some soil around the edges of the rhizomes to cover the exposed roots. Just be sure to do it so any water drains away from the rhizome and doesn't collect on top of it.
