I love that expression...Hell and hald of Georgia. I planted allium for the first time and was surprised at the foliage too. They are okay where they are (nothing goes in the iris bed but iris,) but I want to plan ta fewmore, and they will be elsewhere. Sorry, I don't know when to move them, but it would probably be safer in the fall.

You're not anxious about getting these moved, are you Mr. Toad? Heh heh. Have you decided on the new irises to replace them?

I don't know squat about moving bulbs. I usually just dig right through them on accident when I am moving plants around. I imagine you could move them after bloom, but it would be safer to wait until the foliage dies back and they go dormant, no?

It seems to me that if you have bearded iris to plant there (either new order or ones need division) then you have to move the allium just before the planting. I don't lnow when you should be moving them either but if they were mine I would move them when the mood struck me. I have moved many lilies while they were growing and they were always fine.

Besides the moving for iris bed made perfect sense to me.

I had the same problem last year. I moved the alliums after their leaves yellowed, all 12 of them, and only one returned! They ARE huge leaves, so I also found out. You think Globemasters are big? Try planting White Giants (name should have given me a clue, duh)! Theirs are twice as big, and I planted them in a rather small bed. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to move them lol.
They are lovely, but they do need lots of room to grow. Then you have to have them planted in a place where you don't mind waiting for the huge foilage to die down so you can clip them off. Just one of my newbie mistakes lol.
