Trimming an Iris Below the Seedpod

FIrst time on the iris forum. I bought 6 irises last year listed as Dietes iridioides (Wild Iris, Fortnight Lily, Cape Iris). They are starting to send up spikes and bloom, each flower lasting one or two days. I was told that by cutting the seedpod it will encourage blooming and understand the reason for that, but am unsure exactly how and where to make that cut. Is the seedpod the part directly under the flower that puffs out a little bit? I assumed so but when I cut into one yesterday I saw no seeds, or maybe they hadn't formed, but it looked more like another flower rolled up inside of it. I'm officially confused. :) I attached a picture. Thanks!
