I planted them in a semi shaded area in my yard that doesn't get too wet. They don't like wet feet and can burn in bright sun, but other than that they are care free in South Louisiana. I have Gracilis which is common here as well as Longifolia.

When they bloom, look directly under the bloom and you will see white rootie looking projections. When you see this, clip it off and put it in the ground.

In NE Florida, they do well in a half days sun or better. They like water, but like drainage as well - not wet feet.

I have a walking iris for in a pot for about 3 yrs and it has never bloomed or had babies. What is wrong?

I grow N. gracilis indoors in the Washington DC area (Z7), and mine bloom reliably every February or March -- they need strong light to put up bloom stalks; mine are in a South-facing window.

When the new pups' leaves get about three or four inches long, I loop the wirey stalk over and plant the pup in a small pot while leaving it still attached to the mother plant. I cut the wire in about a month.
