Branching

Will someone help me with the definition of "four-way branching". I have a TB Iris sold to me as Stepping Out and the colors of my blooming one are so much paler than the pictures on the internet.

The write up on Stepping Out states it has four way branching. I'd like to see if my does.

That's not Stepping Out. That is a more modern iris, and you are right that Stepping Out is darker. Where did you get this iris? It may have been mixed up, and the seller might recognize it and be able to identify it. There are hundreds of irises that look similar to your purple plicata, but yours seems to have a slightly lighter color in the standards, so that might help with an identification.

Oops- I forgot to tell you about branching. The stalk would have four branches- one main one, and three offshoots.

Thank you for your reply. It came from the local Iris Society sale back in 2010.
I didn't catch the difference when it just produced one flower last Spring but this year I got to looking and can see there is an ID problem. I'll be taking a look at some local gardens on tour soon and will see what I can find.
