Can you please post a photo? There are so many irises, numbering in the thousands, that it is difficult to tell without a photo. If the rhizomes are large and very long, it may be a yellow flag iris, and if they are short and roundish, it may be a bearded type of iris, and if they are very small it may be a Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris, but I doubt it. Renee, It has never bloomed. The root is long, not at all similar to bearded iris. This is the first I have ever seen that the inside of the root is pinkish. Who knows, she got the seeds from some that a landscaper had done at her son's condo. There they rip out plants and through them away and plant new. She was trying to figure out how to get them in her suitcase.
She should have put her clothes in a cheapy carryon tote, and put the irises in her suitcase, then checked it! : -- )
If a landscaper is planting it,google landscape services in Calif & see what kind of irises they seem to like putting everywhere. My experience with landscapers is, if they are selling something to one property, they are selling it to everyone else.
