yes you are being impatient!
don't expect very many, if any to bloom this year, consider the ones that do bloom this year lucky! next year you should see a lot of flowers, i know, i've planted more iris than I can count in the last 2 years and was hoping for loads of blooms the first year and got very little, this year will be different! Also, i find that sometimes flower stalks sneak up on you!
Give them at least 1 more year, 2 if they were in bad conditions before you planted them (very overcrowded, in the shade, etc...).

A co-worker from my past job dug them out of her crowded flower bed when she heard I was trying my hand at gardening. So I was hoping to email her a picture, this year.

But at least I have beautiful, healthy looking leaves this year. And now that I know it will be easier to remain patient.

Maybe it is still just a tad early, even in TX? They may just bloom a bit late since they were just put in last year. Iris "usually" bloom for me if they were nice rhizomes & were planted early-ish in the year. There are some stubborn ones though that take longer to bloom, I have one I've had for 3 years already, it had best bloom this year if it knows what is good for it!

Most of mine have not bloomed yet, most don't even have stalks. They may bloom this year. Give them another month or so.

The only ones blooming here in northern Ellis County are the very early ones, iris albicans (white cemetary iris) & Crimson King & a nice bright yellow that I haven't seen before.

Yours might not bloom this year, but it's early days to give up on 'em;
just check about twice a week for buds.
