not ready to replant japanese irises

a neighbor has given me a bunch of japanese irises that he thinned out. i know where i want to plant them, but since we are doing a lot of work to our yard, the bed just isn't ready for planting yet. does anyone know if i can somehow save them until i am ready to plant? or will i just have to plant them now and move them later?

I know, you can send them to me and I'll keep them for you very safely. yep, that's the ticket.

Is there any reason why you can't pot them up? I bought a bunch of irises this past week, and I'm not ready to plant them. So....Japanese irises, Siberians, and bearded irises, all sitting here in pots. Along with all the MANY other plants that need to go in the ground!

Absolute best way would be to pot them up, and then set them in a swimming pool with a few inches of water, that you change the water on once or twice a week. They will keep all summer that way.
