Trim down the foliage to about 3 or 4" or so from the rhizome. Then just plant & ignore them. They may not look like much for a while, but iris are prone to rot if you water too much.

I trim mine in an inverted "V". Yes, if just replanted they're too top heavy if you don't trim the leaves until the roots have a chance to take hold.

I hope you left a little of the rhizome uncovered closest to the leaf fan, kind of counterintuitive but it makes it more likely they will bloom next year. If you plant them too deep, they can take up to the third year to bloom. When they multiply, they must know what to do.

I don't water at all any more, but they say if it hasn't rained for 2 weeks watering will help, especially if not well established.
