Advice for an iris newbie?

Hi! I am new to iris, but not new to gardening. I've always been a plant addict and for the past 5 years have focused solely on roses. Now I'm getting into iris as well (addictive little buggers!!!) I have about 50 varieties ordered between different vendors and had a few questions.

First, we are moving this winter to a new house (same general area). Is it better for me to plant my iris in the ground and dig them when we move? ...or is it better to pot them up for the time being? How many varieties can I put in a pot, and what size pot to you recommend keeping them in for about a year max?

Also, how do you label your iris? With my roses, I use a brother p-touch label maker, but with the iris being planted closer together than the roses, it may look a little odd. Maybe someone has a better method?

Thanks for all your help :)

Tammy
