Blue Iris Help

I'm very new at gardening and hope this isn't a stupid questiong, but... A friend just gave me 4 "toes" from a Blue iris, they appear to be dry and what is left from where she cut the leaves off last year are yellowish color. Could someone please give me advice if these are probably dead; plant them and hope for the best; or put them in water to re-hydrate and then plant them and hope for the best.

I'd plant them. Iris rhizomes are very tough.

Make sure you do not plant them too deep. They like the tops of the "toes" just above the soil. If you put them in water don't leave them in for long, because they will rot.
