Iris seeds????

I have a nice sized iris garden with a mix of varieties but most of them tall bearded iris and it looks like my Sweet Iris has seed pods forming all over the place. I have read up on this and I gather that each seed will be a new variety, we would be lucky to get much that is noticeably different from the mother plant, and it will take 2 or 3 years for them to bloom. Is this all right even if the mother and father plants are the same variety for some of them? I was thinking of making a small raised bed and just planting them in rows as soon as the seed pods look ready to dry and brake open. Will this work?
