Buying irises online in may for zone 7a (northern tn/southern ky)

Is it too late to buy them and have blooms? And should I wait til fall like most bulbs and hope for blooms next spring (like hyacinths)? I'm mostly looking at bearded iris rhizomes. I'm afraid I've missed the window to get them established and have blooms and healthy plants. :(

Yes, you have missed the window for this year.

You should order them online now and plant them when they arrive late this summer. They will bloom for you next spring.

Don't wait until Fall, that will be too late. Irises are not bulbs, they are perennial plants that grow from rhizomes.

Most iris clubs have their sales in August. Not sure how close to Jackson TN you are but their sale will be the 1st Sat in August at the West Tn farmers market.. There are several growers also located in TN..Iris City, Rocky Top Garden and Wild Iris Rows.. These places usually deliver August to Sept. Once you get them planted in the fall, dont expect them to bloom the 1st year..Some will, but some take a little while to settle in.. If you order from a grower go ahead and place your order now..they tend to sell out.
