Tiny bugs on my irises

Virginia

I am being hyper-vigilant about borers this year. I started early enough that when I see the telltale slimy spots, the borer hasn't had a chance to get very far down the leaves & is so small that I can't see the worm itself, just its damage. I cut out the rz and throw it away for caution's sake.

Yesterday, while inspecting my irises, I noticed a lot of tiny bugs on some leaves. They're not aphids; they look more like tiny ticks, and their bodies seem somewhat hard. They're smaller than the head of a pin, so I can't get a good photograph of them.

They can't be iris borer hatchlings, can they? They have legs. What are they? And should I just brush them off the leaves or kill them?
